Congress Park, Denver
The neighborhood in one sentence:
This charming gem smack in the middle of the big city offers a delightful mix of parks, shops, restaurants and cultural attractions — all just 3 miles from downtown.
Favorite places and best-kept secrets:
Meet friends at TAG Burger Bar for a delicious, creative, locally sourced burger (turkey, salmon and veggie options, too) paired with a killer shake or craft cocktail, or reserve a spot at 12@Madison for delightful small plates from chef Jeff Osaka. Sweet Cooie’s ice cream shop is a must-stop for fresh ice cream and handmade waffle cones and confections. And Shells and Sauce is sure to become your go-to for all things Italian. 12th Avenue Market (with its post office in the back) is the corner shop you never knew you wanted, and Wildflowers is the perfect place to pick up that special hostess gift. Tree-lined 7th Avenue Parkway is prime for long walks or short bike rides – and you’re also within walking distance of Cheesman Park, Denver Botanic Gardens, Cherry Creek’s shops, oh-so-hip East Colfax, neighborhood farmers markets and even a Trader Joe’s.
What are transportation and parking like?
Plenty of bus stops (along 12th Avenue, 8th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard) make getting around a breeze, plus there is lots of on-street parking. The downfall: Cars parked on both sides of narrow streets can make two-way traffic tricky, trying your patience. (So can the Lyft and Uber drivers who double park and block the street altogether.)
